A comprehensive credentialing architecture built for every stage of a holistic health career — from first practice credential to elite board recognition.
The primary credentialing ladder. Each tier requires completion of the preceding level. Tiers I–IV are accessible through the standard application process. Tiers V–VI represent board-level distinction.
Entry-level credential for practitioners establishing their professional standing. Minimum 60 hours of holistic health training, ethics agreement, and practice declaration.
For active practitioners with documented client hours. Requires IBC-HHA™ plus demonstrated professional practice, client records, and peer references.
For practitioners who teach, train, or mentor others in the field. Requires IBC-HHP™ plus documented teaching activity and curriculum contribution.
The senior application-based credential. Requires IBC-HHE™ and an approved doctoral-level credential or equivalent in a recognized holistic or integrative health discipline.
Board-certified distinction requiring comprehensive written and applied examination. The highest credential attainable through examination. Requires IBC-HHD™ as prerequisite.
Elite peer recognition conferred by the ICONIC Board. Not applied for — practitioners are nominated and selected by the Board. Reserved for the top 1–2% who have demonstrated transformative contribution to the field.
Sequential requirement: Each tier requires completion of all preceding tiers. You cannot skip directly to Tier III without holding Tier II. Tiers V–VI have additional examination or nomination requirements above the standard application process.
Credentialing Progression Policy
How practitioners advance between tiers, the Experienced Practitioner Fast-Track, parallel designation eligibility, and the Fellow election process.
Parallel designations layer onto your sequential tier credential. They do not require ascending through the tier ladder independently — they are earned alongside your existing IBC credential and displayed as a combined designation (e.g., IBC-HHP™ · Specialist in Clinical Nutrition).
Specialty designation earned within a specific modality or clinical domain. Available to IBC-HHA™ holders and above. Multiple specializations may be stacked. Displayed as IBC-HHP™ · Specialist in [Modality].
View Requirements →Recognizes practitioners who provide clinical supervision to other holistic health practitioners-in-training. Requires demonstrated supervisory experience and IBC-HHE™ as minimum prerequisite.
View Requirements →Designates practitioners approved to conduct ICONIC Board credentialing reviews and examinations. Appointment-based, by application to the Board's examiner program. Requires IBC-HHD™ and a clean ethics record.
View Requirements →For practitioners conducting original research in holistic health. Recognizes formal research contributions including peer-reviewed publications, institutional research programs, or Board-recognized research initiatives.
View Requirements →The Candidate designation is a formal pipeline stage — not a credential, but a registered status that places you in the ICON Board's official practitioner-in-training program. It signals to clients and employers that you are actively pursuing board credentialing.
One-time registration. Annual renewal at $75 while candidacy is active.
Candidacy auto-converts to IBC-HHA™ application once training minimums are met. No new application required.
Visible in the ICONIC Board practitioner directory with Candidate status — clearly distinguished from credentialed practitioners.
Full access to Board educational resources, ethics code, and credentialing preparation materials.
Two designations honor practitioners at the bookends of distinguished careers: those who have retired from active practice, and those whose lifetime contribution to the field merits the highest institutional recognition.
Conferred on credentialed ICONIC Board practitioners who are retiring from active client-facing practice. Emeritus status preserves professional recognition for those who have served the profession with distinction — maintaining their board designation without active practice requirements.
The highest honorary recognition the ICONIC Board confers. Distinguished Fellows are nominated and selected by the Board for transformative, sustained contribution to the holistic health profession — through research, advocacy, education, or institutional leadership. Not applied for.
Every credential in the ICONIC Board ecosystem — eligibility, pricing, renewal, and progression rules in a single view.

Endorsements are distinct from credentials. A credential recognizes the breadth of your holistic health practice. An endorsement recognizes deep integration of a single traditional or complementary discipline — earned on top of, never instead of, a base IBC credential. Available to IBC-HHP™ holders and above. Built on the SHRM/PMI specialty model: earn a foundation credential first, then layer in specialized expertise.
