About IBC-HH-EM™ Emeritus Status

Retirement from active practice does not mean retirement from the field. The IBC-HH-EM™ designation recognizes practitioners who have devoted a decade or more to credentialed holistic health practice and wish to maintain their professional identity while stepping back from direct client work.

Emeritus status preserves your professional recognition without the continuing education requirements of active-tier credentials. It is a bridge between full practice and full retirement—a way to stay connected to the community you helped build.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for IBC-HH-EM™ Emeritus status, practitioners must meet the following criteria:

  • Current Credential: Hold an active IBC-HHP™ or higher credential at the time of retirement filing
  • Practice History: Minimum 10 years of active credentialed practice calculated from initial IBC issuance date
  • Good Standing: No active ethics violations or ongoing investigations at time of filing
  • Retirement Status: Retired or substantially reduced from active client-facing holistic health practice
  • Annual Declaration: Submit annual maintenance declaration confirming continued retired status ($95/year)
  • Board Review: All emeritus filings reviewed and approved by the Board within 30 days

How to Apply

Submit your retirement filing through your credential portal. There is no application fee for the initial transition to emeritus status. The $95 annual maintenance fee begins in your first renewal cycle after approval.

What Emeritus Status Preserves

When you transition to IBC-HH-EM™ status, you retain important professional connections:

  • Credential Designation: Right to use the IBC-HH-EM™ post-nominal designation in professional contexts
  • Directory Listing: Continued presence in the ICONIC Board public directory with emeritus designation clearly marked
  • Member Resources: Access to member communications, community forums, and Board publications
  • No CE Requirement: Unlike active-tier credentials, emeritus status does not require continuing education hours
  • Recognition Events: Honored annually in the Board's Emeritus Recognition ceremony

Emeritus status is a dignified way to honor your career while maintaining professional affiliation with the Board community.

Important: Emeritus status does not permit active clinical practice under the ICONIC Board credential. Practitioners who return to active practice must transition back to an active sequential tier credential (IBC-HHP™, IBC-AHHS™, or IBC-DHH™ as appropriate). Contact the Board to discuss reactivation pathways.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see clients occasionally with emeritus status?

No. Emeritus status is for practitioners who have retired from active client-facing practice. If you plan to continue seeing clients in any regular capacity, you should maintain an active-tier credential.

What happens if I want to return to practice?

You may transition back to an active credential by contacting the Board. Depending on how long you've been emeritus, you may need to complete continuing education requirements to reactivate.

Is the annual fee required?

Yes. The $95 annual maintenance fee helps support your directory listing, member access, and administrative processing of emeritus status. It is significantly lower than active-tier renewal fees.
